Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Edson Fachin denied on Thursday (6) a request for freedom made by the defense of former federal deputy Eduardo Cunha, who has been arrested since October of last year in Curitiba by Operation Car Wash.
Last week, Cunha was sentenced by federal judge Sergio Moro to more than 15 years in prison for crimes of passive corruption, money laundering and evasion of foreign exchange.
In the criminal action, Cunha was accused of receiving more than 1.3 million Swiss francs in bribes for a Petrobras exploration contract at an oil field in Benin, Africa. The contract led to a loss of US$ 77.5 million for the state-owned company, according to the Federal Public Ministry.
