Brazil's Supreme Court is expected to create a work group to speed up proceedings under Operation Car Wash.
No information has been yet disclosed concerning the members of the team or how proceedings are to be made swifter, which depend on the Office of the Prosecutor-General and the Federal Police for a trial by the Supreme Court.
The move was decided on Monday (Apr. 17) after a meeting with Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin, in charge of the probes and court chief Cármen Lúcia. After the probe was opened to investigate the individuals named by former officials from construction giant Odebrecht, 109 were brought under scrutiny.
The proceedings are likely to take at least five years and a half to be concluded, as estimated by FGV Direito Rio, before a criminal case involving authorities protected by special jurisdiction privileges may be brought to an end.
